A teenager was rushed to a hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a train while trying to take the perfect selfie, according to police in Florida. The incident occurred around 5:00 p.m. over the cliff at Bluffs Park North.
The Pensacola Police Department said that the 18-year-old woman is undergoing treatment in a hospital after she was struck by the train.
Officer Nathaniel Aikens said that Julia Laureano of Destin and a friend, Leah Bateman, 20, of Pensacola, had been taking pictures of each other on and by the railroad tracks.
Aikens said that Laureano was injured after she stood next to the tracks to take a picture of herself with an oncoming train in the background.
However, the train hit Laureano as it passed and dragged her several feet before she fell off to the side onto some rocks. The train was southbound and was moving about 40 miles per hour at the time of the crash.
She was taken to the Sacred Heart Hospital, where she is said to be in serious condition.
